5. Glowing Ghost Lanterns

Glowing white ghost lanterns on a front porch at night

Cluster ghost-shaped lanterns near your entrance and the porch feels welcoming and playful, not frightening. Kids love them and they photograph beautifully against the evening sky. Mix sizes — one large anchor ghost with smaller ones around it — and let their soft glow light the way for trick-or-treaters.

What You’ll Need

  • 3-5 ghost lanterns in varied sizes
  • Battery candles or LED tea lights
  • Small pumpkins for the cluster base
  • Faux spider webbing
  • Nearby outlet or batteries

How to Make

  1. Pick a visible corner near the entrance.
  2. Place the largest ghost at the back, smaller ones forward.
  3. Insert a light into each ghost.
  4. Nest small pumpkins around the bases.
  5. Drape webbing over the cluster and switch on at dusk.
