12. Pumpkin Planter Mums
Hollow out pumpkins, drop in pots of bright mums, and you have planters that are pure autumn joy — for less than one store-bought arrangement. Orange-on-orange or white-pumpkin-with-burgundy-mums color blocking looks intentional and lush. Line them down both sides of your steps for a grand entrance.
What You’ll Need
- 4-6 medium pumpkins (hollowed)
- 4-6 pots of mums
- Pumpkin-carving scoop
- Plastic saucers + potting soil
How to Make
- Cut tops off pumpkins; scoop out seeds and pulp.
- Drop a saucer inside each for water protection.
- Set a potted mum inside; wedge with soil.
- Arrange down the steps or beside the door.
- Water every couple of days; compost pumpkins when soft.
