6. Starburst Wall Art

6
Starbursts evoke the fireworks of a New Year’s celebration, making them a fitting decoration for the occasion. Create your own using metallic cardstock, wooden dowels, or even pre-made paper straws. Cut long, pointed star shapes from cardstock, then attach them at the center to a small wooden disc or cardboard circle. Layer two or three stars at slightly different angles for a fuller, more dimensional look.

Another version uses thin wooden dowels cut into 8- to 12-inch lengths, painted in metallic colors and arranged in a starburst pattern on a foam board backing. Glue the dowels in a radial pattern, then fill the spaces between with small wooden stars, sequins, or beads. The finished piece can be hung on a feature wall, propped on a mantel, or used as a backdrop element.

For a quick and easy version, trace star shapes onto gold or silver wrapping paper, cut them out, and attach them directly to the wall using removable mounting squares. Mix in tiny dots and dashes to suggest fireworks bursting across the night sky.
