5. Drawer-Style Countertop Wine Rack

5
If you love the idea of a wine rack but worry about dust and kitchen splatter, a drawer-style rack might be your answer. It looks like a slim wooden box from the outside but pulls out to reveal neat rows of bottles laid horizontally, the way wines are actually supposed to be stored.

You can build this from a single piece of pine, MDF, or plywood. The outer box is a simple rectangle about 24 inches wide, 14 inches deep, and 5 inches tall. Inside, add dividers every 3 inches to create slots. Add small handles on the front and felt or rubber feet on the bottom to protect your counter.

The build takes about three to four hours, mostly from cutting the dividers precisely. Sand the edges smooth, then finish with stain and a couple of coats of polyurethane. The result is a piece that looks more like a chic kitchen drawer than a wine rack, and it slides under cabinets or against a backsplash when not in use.

This is one of the most renter-friendly options on the list. It doesn’t mount to anything, so you can take it with you when you move. It’s also perfect for people who entertain occasionally but don’t want a permanent wine station on display 24/7.
