2. The Muffin Tin Scent Puzzle

Mental stimulation is just as exhausting and rewarding for a dog as physical exercise. Scent-based games tap into a dog’s natural foraging instincts, which helps reduce anxiety and build confidence. The muffin tin puzzle is one of the easiest and most effective brain games you can set up using standard kitchenware and a few tennis balls.
To assemble this interactive game, grab a standard metal or silicone 12-cup muffin tin. Place a few highly aromatic training treats or pieces of kibble into several of the cups. Next, cover all twelve cups of the tin with tennis balls, regardless of whether they contain food. When you present the tray to your dog, they must use their powerful sense of smell to identify which compartments contain the hidden treasures. Your dog will have to figure out how to use their nose, paws, or teeth to lift, nudge, or roll the tennis balls out of the way to claim their reward. This game is highly customizable; you can start by leaving treats in every cup to build their confidence, and gradually decrease the number of treated cups to increase the difficulty level.
