9. Tiered Rolling Cart Herb Station

9
For renters or those who frequently like to rearrange their kitchen layout, a tiered rolling utility cart is the ultimate mobile herb garden. These compact, multi-level carts can hold a massive number of plants in a very small footprint. The greatest advantage of a rolling cart is its mobility; you can easily roll your herb garden next to a sunny window during the day, move it closer to your stove while cooking, or tuck it away into a corner when you need extra floor space.

To set up your mobile garden, choose a metal or plastic three-tiered rolling cart. Line the bottom of each tier with plastic trays or silicone mats to catch any water drips and protect the cart from rust. Place your potted herbs directly onto the shelves, grouping them by their light and water requirements. For example, place sun-loving, drought-tolerant herbs like rosemary, oregano, and thyme on the top shelf where they receive the most exposure. Place moisture-loving herbs like mint, parsley, and chives on the middle and bottom shelves. You can also use the bottom shelf to store your gardening tools, such as a small watering can, pruning shears, and extra plant markers.
