4. Elastic Bungee Cord Wall Barriers

Open shelving is beautiful and makes a camper van feel more spacious, but it presents a major hazard when the vehicle is in motion. Items will inevitably slide off the shelves and crash onto the floor. Instead of building heavy, complicated cabinet doors, you can install lightweight, flexible elastic bungee cord barriers across the front of your open shelves or wall cubbies.

This simple DIY project requires only a length of elastic shock cord and a series of small screw eyes or plastic hooks. Install the screw eyes at even intervals along the outer edges of your shelves. Thread the bungee cord through the eyes, pulling it taut before tying off the ends. The elastic tension creates a flexible barrier that holds books, pantry items, shoes, or clothing securely on the shelves while driving. When you need to retrieve an item, simply pull the flexible cord down or push it aside. It is an incredibly lightweight, inexpensive, and visually clean storage solution.
