When you want to make a bold statement in a larger room, a single-layer wall hanging can sometimes look a bit sparse. The layered double-dowel tapestry solves this issue by adding depth, dimension, and physical layers to your artwork. This project utilizes two wooden dowels of different lengths, hung one directly in front of the other, to create a stunning three-dimensional effect.
You will start by creating a wider, more neutral background piece on the larger, top dowel using simple, open-weave patterns. Next, you will construct a shorter, more intricate, and colorful piece on the smaller dowel. Using thin cord, you will suspend the smaller dowel directly in front of the larger one. The contrast between the simple, structural background and the detailed, textured foreground layer creates an incredibly rich, gallery-worthy piece of art that looks like it was purchased from a high-end design boutique.
